This is a great quote by Neale Donald Walsch, and when I read it I immediately started questioning why most of us never even realize the limitations our personal comfort zones impose upon us, but in true meaning, it is hard to leave our comfort zones. Sometimes we need to fight with ourselves, sometimes we need to get uncomfortable, sometimes we fight with our fears, sometimes we do things for the first time, sometimes we fail and sometimes we get succeed, but all struggles make us grow in life and help us to make ourselves stronger in life.
Being stuck in a repetitive life is not the proper way to live it. The saying “you only live once” holds a lot of truth. You only get to be here once, so make the most of it. Push yourself to do something you wouldn’t normally do, and go beyond your comfort zone because that is where life truly does begin. You will become amazed at what you have checked off of your bucket list, and you will find out new things about yourself as a person by experiencing parts of life that you haven’t before.
Humans love to be comfortable. It’s one of our strongest urges.
Unfortunately, the desire to be comfortable can be a prison if you refuse to ever leave your comfort zone.
Escaping your comfort zone is important if you want to have an exciting and fulfilling life.
Life Begins At The End Of Your Comfort Zone
What exactly makes you uncomfortable?
- Is it crowds?
- Playing your guitar for others?
- Writing a short story and posting it online?
- Dating?
- Parties?
- Speaking to new people?
- What exactly are you so scared to embrace?
We are only scared when we are not absolutely, positively, and completely certain of the result.
It takes only a short time for us to conclude that continually certain results are continually boring. Life begins when boredom ends. We all know this. No one has to tell us this. We’ve known this since we were six.
In reality a comfort zone is a place where you never do a new thing and just live your life without any discomfort and barely any growth.
It doesn’t take long for the average person to realize that for the average person to rise above the average, a willingness to be a little scared or a little nervous or at least a little unsure is going to be required. Challenges of life are the real opportunities to grow, and a comfort zone consists of no challenges that mean no opportunities.
Change is hard because you’re wired to expect the worst
Getting out of your comfort zone is hard because humans are wired to expect the worst-case scenario. Your brain wants to keep you safe, so you have a natural negativity bias — a stronger reaction to actual or anticipated negative events.
Why do you need to step out of your comfort zone?
Getting out of your comfort zone from time to time alters your brain’s tolerance to change, for the better. Shaking things up every now and again shows your brain that there’s nothing to fear — you’ll be fine on the other side of a little stress, and it’s worth it.
Why do you need to step out of your comfort zone?
1. Without risk, there is no reward.
You will never fly if you do not jump. You absolutely have to take risks in life to gain rewards. If you don’t take a risk, you’ll never know what could have been. Some of the most successful people in life took risks – not all risks taken may see reward, but you must not let that stop you from taking risks in the first place.
2. You will learn something new.
If you want change, you’ve got to get out of that comfortable, plushy place that keeps you doing the same thing over and over again. Break out of that because I guarantee you that you will end up learning something new. You’ll meet new people, you’ll see new places, you’ll learn new skills, and you’ll become a better version of yourself.
3. Complacency is a creativity killer.
Creativity in my opinion is the ability to think outside of the box. It’s a lot harder to do that when you’re stuck in the same box every single day. When you’re presented with hard times and placed in new territories, you’ll be surprised at how creative you become. Innovation is not always an option – sometimes it is a necessity.
4. Change will happen, and that’s a good thing.
Change is a scary thing, isn’t it? New friends, new people, new job, new conversations, new town, new city, new food? Yes, it can all be a bit overwhelming – the thought of it all can be crippling. But once you get over those fearful thoughts, and look past the bad things that could happen – you’ll focus less on where you are now, and where you want to be. One big change might be the one thing you need to get closer to your goals.
In Conclusion
Fear is nothing more than something we all create in our minds. When you look fear of any kind in the face and push through it and take the action you are afraid of taking, the fear will dissipate and fall away. Here’s the thing: the more you face fear, the less it will surface for you in new situations. With time, you will have reconditioned your subconscious mind to recognize your courage rather than fear as the norm.
Life is supposed to be easy, fun, and fulfilling, not hard, boring, and lacking. You’ll find when you step out of your comfort zone, everything changes, and life is what it’s meant to be. So, get out of your comfort zone; and begin to have fun!
